Well. This has been a long time coming.
Nearly four years ago, I sat down at a little coffee shop in downtown Pullman to write a business plan for a lingerie company named after my grandma's, Kay & Edna. At the time, I was working a desk job that made me pretty surly by the end of the day, and it felt like the right time for a change.
Long story short, life took a couple unexpected turns and nearly a year ago I found myself working from home (yay!) but still hating my job (retouching photography, boo). It finally clicked that my little business idea wasn't going anywhere anytime soon. It gave me anxiety to have this idea building inside, while I wasn't doing a thing about it.
Fast forward to last December, I'm sitting in another coffee shop, drafting yet another business plan. Same story, different year. But this time was a little different. I knew I had to really put myself out there for this to work. So when a photographer friend of mine who happened to be working at said coffee shop asked what I was up to, I told her. And we started chatting about a future product shoot. It was a quick conversation, but it was enough momentum to move me forward (thanks, Ileia).
New Year's Eve 2015 I made a promise to myself that I would connect with as many people as possible in the coming year to make this thing go. Since then, I've helped start a women's networking group, started meeting with a business advisor, FINISHED that mother loving business plan, and even found an investor (Hi, Dad).
If I've learned anything in the past year, it's that actions really do speak louder, and produce more results, than words alone. Make to do lists, check the things off that to do list. Just keep going. Eventually you'll realize you're not just dreaming anymore, you're doing.
